A Red Butte (Canyonlands National Park)

As I hiked on my way to the confluence overlook, my mind could only of this as a natural formation in the shape of the famous Sphinx. With its distinct color of red in contrast to the more yellows, browns and greens of the surrounding landscape in Canyonlands National Park, it definitely stood out. To compose the image, I decided to use some of the nearby rocky foreground and let the eye be drawn to the red butte off in the distance. Having that foreground and then the red butte would allow me to fill up most of the image and have a minimal amount of what I felt was negative space with the blue skies above.
